Description

Delicious homemade soft and chewy sourdough pretzel bites, perfect for snacking or entertaining.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups active sourdough starter
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 large egg (for egg wash)
  • Coarse sea salt (for sprinkling)
  • Cheese sauce or preferred dip (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Mix the active sourdough starter, warm water, sugar, and salt in a large mixing bowl until blended.
  2. Gradually add in the flour, mixing until a soft dough begins to form.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a covered bowl and let it rise for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  6. Divide the risen dough into small pieces and roll each into bite-sized balls.
  7. Boil about 10 cups of water in a pot, add baking soda, and carefully boil the pretzel bites in batches for 30 seconds each.
  8. Glaze the tops with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
  9. Bake in the oven for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Serve warm with cheese sauce or your favorite dip.

Notes

For best flavor, allow the dough to rise longer for more tanginess.
