- 2 cups active sourdough starter
- 1 cup warm water
- 3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 large egg (for egg wash)
- Coarse sea salt (for sprinkling)
- Cheese sauce or preferred dip (for serving)
Instructions
- Mix the active sourdough starter, warm water, sugar, and salt in a large mixing bowl until blended.
- Gradually add in the flour, mixing until a soft dough begins to form.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a covered bowl and let it rise for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Divide the risen dough into small pieces and roll each into bite-sized balls.
- Boil about 10 cups of water in a pot, add baking soda, and carefully boil the pretzel bites in batches for 30 seconds each.
- Glaze the tops with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
- Bake in the oven for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
- Serve warm with cheese sauce or your favorite dip.
Notes
For best flavor, allow the dough to rise longer for more tanginess.
