Description

A comforting pasta dish with a flavorful blend of Italian sausage, garlic, and tomato sauce, topped with fresh basil and parmesan.


Ingredients

  • 8 ounces pasta (penne or spaghetti)
  • 1 pound Italian sausage (sweet or spicy)
  • 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped

Instructions

  1. Cook the Pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil and cook pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. Heat the Skillet: Drizzle olive oil in a spacious skillet and heat over medium heat.
  3. Sauté Aromatics: Add chopped onion and minced garlic, cooking until the onion is translucent, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Brown the Sausage: Remove casing from sausage and add to the skillet, breaking it apart. Cook until browned and fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Add the Tomato Sauce: Pour in the tomato sauce and let it simmer for about 10 minutes.
  6. Season: Adjust flavor with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Combine with Pasta: Toss cooked pasta into the skillet until coated with the sauce mixture.
  8. Serve and Garnish: Plate the pasta, sprinkling with freshly grated parmesan and basil.

Notes

Make-ahead by storing the sausage mixture in the refrigerator for up to two days. Reheat before adding pasta.
