Description
A delightful cake that captures the essence of summer with vibrant orange flavors and creamy frosting.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
- 1 tablespoon orange zest
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Candied orange slices for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan with butter or cooking spray, then lightly dust it with flour.
- Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar using an electric mixer until light and fluffy—about 3-4 minutes.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the orange juice and zest until well combined.
- Whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a separate bowl. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form, then gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla, beating until stiff peaks form.
- Frost the cooled cake generously with the whipped frosting and garnish with candied orange slices.
- Slice, serve, and enjoy!
Notes
This cake can be made ahead and frosted just before serving. For a lighter frosting, consider using whipped topping instead.
