Description
A classic Southern comfort dish featuring tenderized beef steaks coated in a crispy breading and served with rich country gravy.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 Tenderized Beef Steaks
- 1 Cup All-Purpose Flour
- 1 Teaspoon Salt
- 1/2 Teaspoon Black Pepper
- 1/2 Teaspoon Garlic Powder
- 2 Eggs
- 1 Cup Buttermilk
- Oil for Frying
- 1/2 Cup Milk
- 1/4 Cup Chicken Broth
- 2 Tablespoons Butter
- 2 Tablespoons All-Purpose Flour
- Salt and Pepper to Taste
Instructions
- Prepare the breading stations: Set up two bowls; in one, mix together the flour, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. In the other, whisk together the eggs with the buttermilk.
- Coat each steak: Dip each tenderized steak in the buttermilk mixture, allowing excess to drip off. Then, coat each steak in the flour mixture.
- Heat the oil: In a cast iron skillet, heat enough oil over medium-high heat until it shimmers.
- Fry the steaks: Carefully add the coated steaks to the skillet, frying until they turn golden brown, about 4-5 minutes on each side.
- Drain and keep warm: Remove the steaks and drain them on a paper towel-lined plate.
- Make the gravy: In the same skillet, melt the butter, whisk in the flour, then gradually pour in the milk and chicken broth, whisking until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
- Serve: Arrange the fried steaks on plates, drizzling with country gravy.
Notes
Make the steak and gravy ahead of time and store separately. Reheat before serving. Consider using an air fryer for a lighter version.
