Description

Irresistibly creamy and cheesy, these Best Au Gratin Potatoes are layered with garlic and topped with a golden, crunchy crust, making them the perfect comfort food for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds of potatoes (Yukon Gold or Russet)
  • 2 cups of heavy cream
  • 1 cup of Gruyère cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup of Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon of butter (for greasing the dish)
  • Fresh herbs for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Grease a casserole dish with butter.
  3. Peel and slice the potatoes thinly (about 1/8-inch thick).
  4. In a large bowl, mix heavy cream, minced garlic, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  5. Layer half of the potatoes in the greased dish, overlapping slightly.
  6. Pour half of the cream mixture over the potatoes and sprinkle with half of the Gruyère cheese.
  7. Repeat with the remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and Gruyère cheese.
  8. Top with grated Parmesan.
  9. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  10. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  11. Let sit for a few minutes before serving.
  12. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.

Notes

You can assemble your dish hours, or even a day, in advance. Just wait to add the cheese topping until you’re ready to bake. Consider using an air fryer for a quicker bake, adjusting cook times as needed.
