- 8 ounces elbow macaroni
- 4 strips of thick-cut bacon
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups whole milk
- 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Breadcrumbs (optional for topping)
Instructions
- Cook the macaroni by boiling salted water and cooking until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- Cook the bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crispy. Remove and crumble.
- Make the roux by melting butter in the same skillet and whisking in flour for about 1-2 minutes.
- Add milk gradually, whisking continuously until thickened.
- Combine with cheese, stirring until melted and smooth.
- Season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Mix the macaroni with the cheese sauce and crumbled bacon.
- Optional: Transfer to a baking dish, top with breadcrumbs, and broil for 2-3 minutes until golden.
